What happens when you mix Broadway and the creators of South Park? You get The Book of Mormon. This religious satirical musical tells the story of two young Mormon missionaries who try to spread their church’s message to a remote village in northern Uganda. The village is threatened by a brutal warlord and the villagers have trouble connecting with the missionaries because they are more concerned about war, famine, poverty and AIDS than they are about religion. Now you can experience the hilarity at the Bank of America Theatre, 18 W. Monroe, 312.977.1710. This show contains explicit language.

Performances are on Fri., 7:30pm; Sat., 2pm and 8pm; Sun., 2pm and 7:30pm; Tues.–Thurs., 7:30pm. For more information visit broadwayinchicago.com.

Beating the Winter Blues

With the heavy snowfall that hit Chicago last week and more expected to arrive in the next few days, it’s easy to get stuck in the winter blues. Weather Mark Tavern is a good place to escape. As “Your Port of Call for Great Food and Fun,” this South Loop tavern is just blocks away from the Miracle Mile. Step inside this oasis and indulge in great food and drinks. Its close proximity to the Loop makes it a great lunching spot, and the rustic ship environment will make you forget the dreary weather as the icicles on your eyelashes melt away.

The large menu means there is something for everyone in your group, even the pickiest of eaters. Chow down on The Chili Burger Skillet or opt for a salad or wrap if you want something on the lighter side. Kids will love the macaroni and cheese and will be begging to finish their meal with a Skillet Cookie. Being a tavern, Weather Mark also boasts a large list of Sailor’s Rations, or drinks. Enjoy Chef Jake’s fifty house and specialty rums from around the world, or kick back with one of the several beers offered on tap, including Three Floyd’s Zombie Dust and Gumball Head.

With the laid-back nautical atmosphere and the excellent service this restaurant is a great destination for travelers year round. This summer, Weather Mark will team up with TikiBoat Chicago for some great parties on the water.

Open weekdays, 11:30am–2am; Saturday 10:30am–3am; Sunday, 10:30am–Midnight. Kitchen open until midnight. Reservations Accepted. Under 21 may stay until 10:30pm. 1503 S. Michigan, 312.588.0230.
