After completing a spectacular run at the off-Loop TimeLine Theatre Company in 2010, To Master the Art returns to the stage at the Broadway Playhouse. It has received dozens of rave reviews and five Jeff Award nominations, including New Work and Production. The show tells the tale of Julia and Paul Child and their decade abroad in Paris, where Julia’s famous love of cooking began. To Master the Art takes you on a trip through time to show the audience a vulnerable and inexperienced side of Julia Child most people never knew. It is filled with touching, dramatic moments of self-discovery as Julia learns her craft and writes her first best-selling cookbook in France. The show also delves deep into the history of the 1950s, displaying the burdens of Paul’s government job and communist accusations. The Chicago Tribune said it is one of the “toughest tickets in Chicago” and Talkin’ Broadway called it “a total delight.” The outstanding cast performs a beautiful comedy that will keep you laughing at Julia’s classic idiosyncrasies from beginning to end.
