If you happen to find yourself anywhere near the Loop this weekend, you may find it nearly impossible to avoid the crowds and the sound bleed of one of the summer's biggest happenings.

It's the annual visit of Lollapalooza, original founder Perry Farrell's sprawling musical buffet from the 90s that has been reincarnated and repackaged from its origin as a smaller multi-city tour into a massive three-day Grant Park party. The audiences are bigger, the band roster is bigger, and the cultural impact on the city is bigger than ever before.

What hasn't changed is Farrell's dedication to eclecticism, with a lineup that features performances from big names like Mumford & Sons, The Killers, Nine Inch Nails, Vampire Weekend, New Order, The Cure, Queens of the Stone Age, Phoenix and many more, plus dozens of on-the-cusp artists and a full schedule of electronic dance music (EDM) acts in the wild outdoor nightclub known as Perry's Place. In addition to the music, there are a variety of art and music vendors throughout the park, as well as a full array of food and drink.

Lollapalooza runs Friday through Sunday, noon-10pm. One-day ($95) and three-day ($235) passes are sold out. Jackson and Columbus, 888.512.7469.
